WHAT TO SEE AND DO IN LJUBLJANA

Ljubljana may be one of the smallest capitals of Europe, but it's huge in terms of the variety of what you can do, see and taste in the city and the region of Ljubljana. It is a vibrant European capital that puts its people first. The city centre has long ago banished cars to make room for more outdoor cafes and restaurants, cultural events, open-air markets, bike lanes, shopping areas. The joy of living in Ljubljana emanates from its every corner.

SEE, DO and EXPERIENCE

Ljubljana is a city with much to offer all year round, whatever the weather. It boasts numerous sights, picturesque districts and pleasant corners.

The city centre has undergone visible changes over the past decade. It has been pedestrianised and closed to motor vehicles, promenades have developed along the banks of the river Ljubljanica and the city's streets and green areas pulse with the rhythm of café culture. The city is filled with a positive energy that you are certain to feel.

Ljubljana is full of experiences and countless fascinating stories and legends (Do you know why Ljubljana is known as city of dragons?). It is often ephasized that the best way to discover the sights of a city is simply to walk its streets. One might even argue that it is sometimes good to get lost for a while, in order to feel the authentic energy of streets, squares and riverside embankments.

But so that you don't simply wander aimlessly, we have prepared a list of tips that will help you explore and lead you to all the most important sights. You can start with Top 10 Ljubljana attractions and Top 10 signature experiences in Ljubljana!

If you prefer a more active holiday in the capital of Slovenia, you'll find hiking trails and cycling routes both in the heart of the city and in the wider Ljubljana area.

EVENTS

Ljubljana is a very lively city. It displays a remarkable agenda of more than 14,000 cultural events each year - including 14 international festivals and many other traditional happenings. During the warmer months, a host of free events livens up the public spaces in the downtown area, helping to create a special atmosphere in the Slovenian capital.

The festivals held in Ljubljana range from prestigious cultural events featuring excellent artists, such as the Ljubljana Festival. In spring and summer, a large number of free festivals are held on open-air stages and city streets, such as »June in Ljubljana«, »Summer in Ljubljana Old Town« and »Nights in Ljubljana Old Town«. One of the most interesting is the ever-surprising Ana Desetnica street theatre festival. You can find more on the city open-air events throughout the year here.
